Improvements in AdCommerce Relevance

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

In an effort to further improve the conversion of your ads and the experience of the buyers, starting this week we will be introducing higher standards of relevance. Moving forward, we will only show ads that are closely related to the buyer search. We expect positive results for buyers, and believe that you will see the improvement as well with increased quality clicks and sales.

Here are some tips on how to make sure your ad is relevant:

Create ad text relevant to your products: If you are selling very different products, you will get better results by creating separate ads that are very specific to each product. For instance if you have listings in Consumer Electronics and in Clothing and Accessories, create two different ads: you can go to the Ad Wizard and restrict one ad to the Consumer Electronics category and the other to the Clothing and Accessories category.

Use the Ad Wizard and Smart Tags: The Ad Wizard will help you create ads easily and find keyword ideas that are most relevant. With the Wizard, you can create several ads in a few minutes, so it can really pay off to create several ads for your different products. Smart tags can be very helpful for improving your click-through-rate. Using a Smart tag as a keyword, in particular, will dynamically insert the searched word into your ad making it immediately relevant to searches by buyers.

Choose relevant keywords: Using the Ad Wizard is a great place to start as it will help narrow your list of relevant keywords based on the title of your listing. Be sure to review the list to ensure you are choosing the most relevant keywords for your product, and that your keywords selection complies with the AdCommerce agreement and policies. If you are using the Custom Ads, the best approach is to ask yourself: “what would a buyer expect to see when searching using this word?” For example, a user searching for “window cleaning” expects to see products or tools used to clean windows. An ad for a vacuum cleaner would not be relevant, even if it is related to the topic of “cleaning.”

With our recently implemented higher standard for ad relevance, we hope that you will observe an increase in the performance of your ads. As always, feel free to contact us with questions or to share your feedback!

ROI Reporting Now in Beta Testing

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

As previously announced, on October 1 we started showing ROI data to a limited set of AdCommerce users. While we are planning to offer this tool to everyone, we first want to ensure that the ROI reporting data is easy to access and use. This initial pilot will run for a few months before we roll it out to all users.

Again, the goal is to offer ROI reporting to all of our AdCommerce users in the near future. Rest assured that we’re working diligently to roll out this feature in as timely a manner as possible.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Tips on How to Use New Reporting Features

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

With the latest release of AdCommerce, we now offer a consolidated reporting center that gives you the ability to easily monitor your advertising metrics. As the reporting tools have been significantly modified from the previous release, here are some tips to best use the enhanced functionality:

Click the “Reports” tab on the navigation bar to access reports.

You choose the report type and what data you want to see. The new reporting center allows you to see data about your campaigns, ads, and keywords all in one place. Just select the type of data you want to see from the drop-down menu. You can choose by day, by campaign, by ad, or by keyword. Then select the date range and click on “Run Report.” Your report will immediately display with a graph and data table.

You control how what metrics are displayed on the graph. The graph displays two metrics on the same graph, so you can easily compare the results. Select the metric you desire (impressions, clicks, average cost-per-click, average click-through rate, average position, or cost) for the X and Y axis – it’s your choice.

The data table shows the metrics you requested. Based on the report type you selected, the table displays metrics by individual days, campaigns, ads, or keywords. For example, if you chose ad, this table allows you to compare the performance of your ads against each other to find out which ads are working the best.

You can also generate fine-grain reports by using additional filter options. Click on “Show More Filters” and the following options display:

  • Campaign – Limit the report data by the items in a specified campaign.
  • Ad Name – Limit the report data by a specified ad.
  • Keyword – Limit the report data by a specified keyword.
  • Status – Limit the report data by items with a specified status. Options include:
    • All – Shows ads, campaigns, or keywords of all statuses.
    • Paused Only – Shows data for only paused ads, campaigns, or keywords.
    • Deleted Only – Shows data for only deleted ads, campaigns, or keywords.

We hope the new reporting features will give you better insight into how your AdCommerce account is performing and is helpful in your decision-making process. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any follow up questions.
